I had a great few days at the beach - relaxed, renewed, and freckled (but no sunburn). Good to get away once in a while. We purposely traveled on Thursday/Tuesday to avoid the weekend traffic. I don't think I've ever made it back home quicker, great traffic flow and not the usual construction backups. There were not a lot of patrols out to stop my pedal to the metal...LOL! Surprised the heck out of me that's for sure.
I ended my week on a sad note as one of my clients passed away. I knew when I returned to work he had gone a little downhill, but by Friday I knew in my heart he was transitioning. He has had hospice care for a few weeks so we had been comparing notes. I advised the spouse and explained what would probably happen over the next few days. She notified the family advising them of my presumptions. I sat with him all day, listened to his favorite music, held his hand and repeatedly told him softly that his beloved spouse would be taken care of. I made him as comfortable as I could before I left him with another aid. My client was going to be moved to a nursing facility on Saturday for 24/7 care. I almost went to see him Saturday morning as I just had a feeling (you know me and the signs I receive), but did not want to overstep my boundaries. He passed before transport arrived. I was notified by his spouse right after a bright red cardinal appeared in front of my car. I'm glad his family was with him. I received a wonderful message in the afternoon from his son thanking me for all I did for his dad and family. I shed a few tears as each client attaches to my heart. I take comfort in knowing I did all I could to make transitioning for him and his family as comfortable as I could. I'm sad, yet know he is at peace and watching over his family. I feel blessed to do what I do. My other client is doing very well for her age and I'll keep busy with her this week. I advised my boss one client is enough for the time being.
