We celebrated mema's 83rd birthday this past week. I think she wore the birthday crown at least four days as they had a party at the nursing home mid week for her and another resident. For those of you that know mema putting a crown on her head is almost an impossible feat. Mema always always always protected her hair above all else. We all grew up learning never ever touch her hair, we all joke about it. I honestly don't know how she was able to sleep every night and protect her hair. She hardly ever missed a Saturday at the hairdresser (although they have changed over the years). Now she goes every Tuesday morning (first appointment of the day) and all the staff knows to get her moving in the morning and to her appointment. Everyone comments on her hair when it's done. It's really nice to see how they go out of their way to make a big deal out of her. When mema has a good week, I have a good week.
Papa had a pretty good week as he got to have lunch with mema twice. He was released from occupational therapy when he showed the therapist how he can maneuver in the kitchen and used the knives to make lunch. He does not like a shower aide, but has agreed to the ordeal for a couple more weeks. He so wants the braces to be removed and I don't blame him, they make it difficult to sleep comfortably. We had a discussion this morning about his upcoming treatment in Boston and he said he did not understand something and no one ever tells him anything. Of course, the fact that he is hard of hearing does not help the situation. So we talked about it in general and he said that does not make sense logically. I almost laughed out loud because that was one of my sayings at work when I did not understand something. The longer I am here the more I learn about what I inherited from both mema and papa..LOL! What have you inherited from your family?
My heart is saddened by all the craziness in the world. I am not sure I can understand how or why some of the things happen. Are we getting too used to violence? I certainly hope not. Are we making heroes out of those that do not even know the meaning of the word? Are we not teaching and showing the next generation to appreciate life? This crazy world makes me appreciate every moment each day as you never know what will happen next.
My heart goes out to my friend Mary as her lovable Bagus crossed over the Rainbow Bridge. Sorry I could not be there. He was around for many years and was my buddy when I hung out at her house.
My BFF Patti arrived on Thursday. Although we are not out exploring as much as I hoped, I'm so glad she is here. We'll see what happens.
I am going to leave it here for today. I hope you have a wonderful week. Take care. Chat soon. Marie
