As you know I do not discuss politics here, but I have to say I feel angry at what the Supreme Court and many states have done. Whether or not I believe in abortion, I truly believe in a women's right to choose. I honestly believe no one knows what personal decision to make unless you are in the situation. What truly worries me is if the courts can set back women's rights by this one decision what is to happen next. Now the subject is closed on this blog.
Well, I had one of those weeks. Good news Monday morning from the oral surgeon...yeah! Third visit in a week. I was able to get ahead of an infection and the swelling/bruising almost gone. He told me I could eat soft foods if I chew on the opposite of my mouth.
Then life happened. I posted some of this on my personal FB page so if you want to skip over please do. I decided to stop at the new Wawa for an iced coffee on the way to work. To celebrate my ability to eat I decided to also get a doughnut. Well, I took a tumble over a curb on the way back to the car; the 32 ounce coffee flew across the parking lot and my sunglasses across the ground. The doughnut was saved as it was in my purse - although it did not get eaten until 3:00 and was not enjoyed. As someone who has fallen many times over the years, jumped up off the ground grabbed my sunglasses and got in the car. I think the curb was higher than I expected because I knew it was there. I was a bit shaky with bleeding knees (did not rip the pants) and hands, but the pain was in the left arm near the wrist. I could see a decent dent in the arm. I went on to work and never let on to my client. I had an ice pack with me so I kept it under my arm for a bit. I worked my shift and decided to call the doctor on my way home. I belong to an HMO and they have an urgent care center after 3, so I got an appointment and went on my way. So far it's almost 3 pm and no one knows about my fall except me. My BFF texted me about 3:30 to ask where I was and I said running errands taking longer than I thought.
So again, life gets in the way. I needed x-rays, well they were backed up like crazy. It took almost 2 hours. Then they had a system wide outage and nothing could be sent to dr. The dr decided to put a velcro splint on the wrist until the x-rays could come through. They asked if I could back that night if the x-rays came back. I said sure...then they told me to have someone drive me back. I got home at 6:30 pm and then had to explain the story to my BFF. At 10:15 Monday night I got a call to head back to urgent care. My Bff and I head back. I had a break in the ulna bone on the outside so now I'm given a new splint above the elbow with a sling. They also told me the ortho department would call me in the morning.
Tuesday I head to work just to let my client know I would not be working. Luckily, her son was visiting so I knew it would be ok for her. She took one look at me and almost fell over. When I told her and her son the story, she kept saying, "I did not notice and you never said a word!" I replied when I work it's about you not me. I left after about an hour. I did say I would be there on Wednesday as I had made arrangements for her dog to have dental work.
Tuesday afternoon my BFF drove me to the ortho dr. They take off the splint and checking everything out. Then I get another splint beneath the elbow and I'm to return on Friday for a hard cast after some of the swelling is gone. I have to be honest, I did not even realize it was swollen. So Friday, I went back and picked a pretty purple cast. In the meantime, I did work on Wednesday, Thursday and partially on Friday. You'll be happy to know I turned down working the weekend.
Phew that was a long story to put you through. Needless to say I felt very stupid and klutzy (what I'm known for) and my ego was bruised most of the week. The bruises and cuts are healing. It is interesting to learn new ways of doing simple acts and a bit tiring. It's taken me much longer than normal to put this blog together but at least my fingers work.
This past week I finished reading: "BRAZEN VIRTUE" by Nora Roberts - mystery/romance, easy read. Also, "THE DICTIONARY OF LOST WORDS" by Pip Williams - Reese' Book Club selection. Set in the late 1800s/early 2000s. It is an interesting novel about the creation of the Oxford English Dictionary with a coming of age story mixed in.
