It's been an enjoyable week as my friends and I drove over 1500 miles through some beautiful landscape. I'm not sure I would have appreciated long road trips when I was younger, I have found with age comes perspective and my outlook a little more open. Sometimes I don't realize I need a break until I'm on one. When you live in a well populated area with lots of traffic, you forget what's in like on the open road with miles between houses. I appreciate the fact that I will always be a city/urban type person.
We passed through the Shenandoah Mountains, Smoky Mountains, Appalachian Mountains, and Ozark Mountains. We saw small towns that are making comebacks and some that have nothing left. Everywhere we stopped, the people have been very friendly. We met a couple from Germany here to see professional football games (they love American football). They were astonished so little is provided for breakfast as many European hotels have buffets with tons of food. I have created photo albums every day in FB for those that follow my personal page. We are still on the road so if you follow my personal FB page you will see more pictures.
We have stayed in no name and named hotels; some a little bit more worn than others. Always interesting to see what's provided for "breakfast". The amenities of soap/shampoo are still provided and our rooms usually basically the same. It is fun to see some rooms have clocks some do not (I guess since almost everyone has a phone now, they presume people don't need clocks. Some of the smaller hotels have signs posted in room about the cost of taking any item from the room. We usually have three separate rooms (my friends are heavy snorers...LOL); so we have a break from each other at night. We have tried to eat in local restaurants as much as possible and the food has been very good.
I have kept in contact with my client to be sure she gets to the doctor appointments arranged before I left. Also, since she's basically home bound, she loves to live vicariously through me. I have sent her a picture or two so she knows I am safe. I will show her all the albums when I return. Personally, I don't connect with my clients on FB.
