Once called the “Playground on the Potomac,” Colonial Beach is an eclectic small town of fewer than 4,000 residents that is known for its sandy beaches, osprey, murals, and palm trees. Yes, palm trees, which are donated each year and are the calling card of Colonial Beach.
Believe it or not, we were at Colonial Beach about 20 years ago looking for a possible beach place. It's only a couple of hours from us and we would have been able to spend a bit more usable time. At the time the area was recovering from a hurricane and there were no condos only houses. Needless to say, we did not buy anything and continued our search for a few months before buying in Myrtle Beach SC. We sold that place a couple of years ago. Colonial Beach is in the process of building condos, townhouses and a new boardwalk. They are hosting the first annual restaurant week this year.
We stayed in an AirBnB right at the beach with a fabulous view and location, but had definitely seen better days. The floors, doors and windows were all creaky, warped or not able to close/open completely. Great corner lot, but just trying to fix the foundation on this house would probably cost a fortune. We did tool around in a golf cart for the day. We had good food and good adult beverages - a great way to spend a few days. I did sleep about 9 hours a night, which for me is a very good thing.
Brought my van in Monday for an oil change after the two road trips. We had a few laughs as I told them some exploits from the trips. All is good with the van and ready to keep going and going...LOL!
This past week I finished: "THE MAZE" - by Nelson DeMille - the 8th book in the John Corey series. First one I've read...main character a little much, but since I did not have the background of 7 previous books, it could be the way he is. "CROSS DOWN" - James Patterson and Brendan Dubois - An Alex Cross & John Sampson Thriller. Good as always.

"In October a maple-tree before your window lights up your room like a great lamp. Even on cloudy days its presence helps to dispel the gloom." — John Burroughs
