I'm a little late today as I went on one last mini roadtrip for 2023. For the first time in many years, I did not bring my laptop (my preferred method for typing the blog) and I tried not to look at my phone too much. My BFF and I went to Bethlehem PA for Peepfest. It is truly geared toward kids, but it was fun. It is set up in the remnants of Bethelehem Steel and they are renovating the different buildings around the site. They had set up firepits with smores, an ice skating rink, a couple of food trucks and games for kids. They also had a local radio station with a dance area. To see the Peep drop you did not actually have to enter the area you could see from the fence area. Once the Peep is dropped, fireworks started immediately on the other side of the parking lot. It was terrific. It was only $5 for tickets and you have to order online in advance as they only sell a limited number each year. The Peepfest has been going on for about 15 years and we heard about it last year. Since it's family oriented it's done by 6:30 pm. We then drove through downtown Bethlehem and realized it's a place we want to visit again. We drove home this morning and traffic was not too bad...we even made a stop at a Pennsylvania Dutch market which opened as we pulled in. OMG I could have went to town in the store.
We stayed in a hotel about 15 minutes away (thank goodness for GPS). The funniest part of our trip was in the hotel. The bathroom had motion detector lights that definitely were not working properly. They turned off randomly so it felt like a disco bathroom at times. Believe me when I say they did not always turn back on with movement. Thank goodness myBFF brought a nightlight.
I know I've written previously about cutting back my naps....well this past week I took many and they were long. I'm not sure if the stress of the past year finally caught up with me, but I finished treatment right before Xmas and have napped almost every day since. I lost most of Friday...I had a petscan in the morning (could not fit in before treatment finished). I came home completely wiped out (have not had that happen before). I arrived home, had some lunch and napped deeply. I woke up because the doorbell rang, brought in the delivery and dealt with it, and then went back into a deep sleep until my BFF got home about 5. I stayed up a few hours and then hit the bed before 9:30. Thank goodness I woke up with energy yesterday.
I've learned two important lessons over the past few months because of my joint issues: 1. always request an accessible room or at least the bathroom has to be accessible; 2. don't be upset with myself when my joints don't want to cooperate and I have to ask for help. We did have a few laughs as the bed was high and I could not get my joints to cooperate to get in. We looked like Lucy and Ethel as my BFF had to help me get into the bed and we were laughing which did not help. My BFF did say we might have to carry a step stool when we travel just for me...LOL!!!
I napped so much this past week I only finished reading one book: "LOOK FOR ME THERE" by Luke Russett - well written describing the pains of grief and dealing with trying to make his own way. Still have not finished all the Xmas movies I recorded, but I'll get them done this week more than likely.
The daily and wacky holidays for the week...provides something lighthearted to think about (there are always more things about each day that are not listed here, but it's so interesting to google "whats important about ...) :
