Are you ready for Thanksgiving? I know it will be a little different for many with smaller gatherings and perhaps no travel. Perhaps a little less pressure for the "perfect" get together. Since I won't be with family I decided to order the groceries and have them delivered to my sister. First time using her local grocery store. Fairly simple to place the order and arrange for delivery. I was notified two hours before (at work did not see email) that several items would not be included and no substitutions. I was truly ticked and disappointed because the turkey was one of the items not delivered. So there went my idea of making life a little easier. It's funny because I almost ordered the entire dinner from one of the mail order companies and did not...I should know to go with my first instinct.
Barbara, the hospice nurse who cared for both of my parents is retiring this coming week. She was a Godsend to me during my time in Massachusetts. I saw her almost every day at the nursing home she truly did not care if any of the residents were her patients or not, she helped everyone. I always felt she cared deeply for everyone including the families. We laughed and cried together. She is the type that I hate to see retire, but also so happy for her and the next chapter. Although she does not read this blog, I'm sending out good wishes and love for her.
I started wrapping Xmas presents as everything needs to be mailed a little this year. Wrapping is not something I'm great at, but I do keep the tape industry in business. My mom was an awesome wrapper. She could eye the present and know the right amount of paper to cut. I also don't use ribbon and bows...basically what you see is what you get. I know it's easier to stuff a gift in a bag, but I like to make you work for the gift...LOL! I am keeping it a bit simple this year and no gigantic or weird shapes. How about you?
My work went well last week. My client and I got out to walk a bit on the sunny days. I carried my little speaker and we sat outside listening to music. We can't wander to the club house or linger in the lobby as they have been shut down again because of the virus. You may have read this on my personal FB page, but thought I would share here: I was selected as "Employee of the Month" by the company I work for - surprised the heck out of me. I received a certificate, t-shirt and gift card. I did not even know the company did this sort of thing. It's a small company and everyone basically works independently so I don't see colleagues very often. It feels nice to be recognized. Communication with the office is done via phone or electronics - so different than my past career where I was part of a team and collaborated with many.
This past week I finished reading: "THE BEST MISTAKE" by Nora Roberts - a quick reading love story. "SQUEEZING LEMONS" by Kiley Gannaway - A coming of age memoir. I forgot to mention a few weeks ago I watched: Not Done: Women Remaking America a documentary which charts the last five years of the women's movement; and Citizen BIO a documentary about biohacking - interesting, but scary.

One last thing before I end it for today. I am really resentful of those people that would not wear a mask or practice social distancing for much of the past year. I can't help but think, if they cooperated the numbers of deaths would be going down and not up. I don't understand how wearing a mask or a face shield could be so politicized and the source of so much anger. I am thankful for those who work the front lines and are doing the best they can in these not so easy times.
I am ending it here. Sorry for the little rant. I hope you have a good week - Happy Thanksgiving. Take care. Chat soon. Wear a mask!! Marie
