I have not said anything about Black Lives Matter and I don't want anyone to think I'm ignoring it. I honestly don't know what to say. I don't have the words or perhaps comprehension to speak. I never heard the word "white privilege" until these past couple of weeks. After reading research/examples, I can see where I had it without knowing. I am listening, reading, and learning. I can't fix or erase history, but I can learn from it. I do not believe I was ever knowingly biased or acted inappropriate to anyone; but if I did, I apologize.
I had a pretty smooth drive to Plymouth. My new car rides really well and has a lot of pep (or I have a lead foot as my mother would say). This was the fastest trip I've ever had - I left at 6:00 am and arrived at the pizza place around the corner before 2:00 pm. That included two pit stops so although Connecticut had traffic, as it always does, I made great time. Most of the highway signs indicate that facial coverings are required at rest stops. I wore my mask, carried wipes and socially distanced appropriately. I must say 99% of the people complied and I avoided the others.
My work week went fairly well. My client who is a homebody had her satellite go out and as she has the TV on 24/7 she was very discombobulated. Four of us made calls about an elderly shut in that has no other stimulus. I had a very nice man who's own father was the same way and tried for over 20 minutes to find an appointment sooner than the one we received. He could not as many are not back at work yet locally. It was definitely peaceful in the house without the racket. My client would work on her find-a-word books and then stare out the window and comment on the quiet. Believe me when I say, the other companion and myself tried everything to reset the system, check wires, etc. She would check the TV every few minutes to see if it was working. Well, after lunch she tried again and miracles of miracles, it came back on. I may never know what happened, but we did not change the appt (for this Tuesday) so they could check the system and possibly the roof connections. Just happy that my client had her TV back on. My other client was happy as he got to take a ride in my new car, which was my way to get him to walk a bit at least through the parking lot. He went willingly because of the car. He also willingly walked when I introduced him to my replacement and asked that he show her around the complex. We all walked together and it went very well.
This past week I finished reading: "THE SOUTHIE PACT" and "HOPE AND DESPAIR" (The Southie Pact Part 2) by Kevin Devlin - painful story of addiction and the impact on a group of childhood friends. I recognized many of the locations as it took place in South Boston and Dorchester.
