Well I have to say what a great week I had. I think it's because I felt life had a bit of normalcy in it for me. I spent time with wonderful friends (some I had not seen in over a year); met a friend's new baby; ate meals in restaurants; tried three new restaurants (at least for me); tried a new crock pot recipe; and in general enjoyed life. I even had a hug or two. I wore a mask in/out of restaurants as I'm just not comfortable at this point without one, and I noticed most people did. I can't tell you how good it felt to connect with people face-to-face again. I hope you are experiencing a bit of normalcy in your life.
Believe it or not, even with all the fun above, I did work two days. I'm still not at the point where I want to add another client or even add days, but if my current client needed additional time, I would provide. I have found when caregiving for the elderly an important part is consistency and a little bit of routine. We had a great time together as I took her to pick up her new eyeglasses. It was so nice to see people treat her with patience and respect as she manipulated her canes (no wheelchair for her). They helped her maintain dignity and independence as they held doors and escorted her while I parked the car.
This past week I must have had a lot of down time as I finished four books: "21ST BIRTHDAY" by James Patterson and Maxine Paetro - latest in the Women's Murder Club Series. "THE ROOM ON RUE AMELIE" by Kristen Harmel - Centered around WWII with strong female leads. "NYPD RED 6" by James Patterson and Marshall Karp - murder/mayhem in NYC. "A PIECE OF THE WORLD" by Christina Baker Kline - fact and fiction set in small coastal Maine where lead female character becomes the inspiration for Andrew Wyeth.
