Overall, my week was very good - it was very social. My oldest nephew and his girlfriend visited for a few days. They did some of the touristy stuff and I prepped a few vegetable forward meals as my nephew is a vegetarian. Believe it or not, I even used plant based meat. I enjoyed the meals as well and even ate the leftovers. I did go out with them to my nephew's favorite museum and to lunch. We had a good visit and I tried not to be overly inquisitive (you all know I can be) or intrusive as it was my first time meeting his girlfriend. It was so good to see my nephew as it's been a couple of years. It was a good visit.
I had a couple of doctor appointments through the week. I saw the dermatologist and she did a complete body/skin check. I have to say I have never had one so thorough. She froze a couple of bumps, but did not see anything to worry about. I will be seeing her every three months. While I was with her she asked if I had seen the ophthalmologist and I said, no I'm due for eye check up, but usually with optometry. She said I should have a preliminary with the ophthalmologist and had her nurse schedule it right then for two days later. More doctors to add to my portal. I always worry about macular degeneration and glaucoma as my parents had them. No signs of either of these. I have age related cataracts in both eyes, but so far very small and not to worry unless they start to bother me. Now I'm scheduled for every other year between optometry and ophthalmology.
A former colleague and her daughter opened a fabric shop last year and I have wanted to visit. Believe me when I say I can not sew a button or even a hem, but wanted to show support. Well, my dear friend is a quilter and has been to the shop and needed to get some supplies. Perfect opportunity for me to tag a long. The shop is amazing with so many fabrics and colors...all I can say is WOW! It's also very welcoming and has lots of good energy. I was able to see my former colleague, meet her daughter and other staff members. But the true highlight was seeing the husband of my former colleague because at one time I was his HR officer. I have not seen him in years and he happened to be in the shop that day. He did not recognize me at first (hat on), but when I said my name his jaw dropped. We spent much time catching up. He recently retired and told me in his papers he found paperwork that I signed over 25 years ago and he thanked me for changing the course of his career. He reminded me of the program I was supporting and how I pushed for his coming on board. He was so thankful. I was so humbled and grateful to find out how I impacted someone else's life. Such an amazing moment - it made me realize we don't tell each other enough how much we mean to each other.
I have to admit after the busy week, I slept most of Saturday. I think I'm fighting a summer cold and yesterday had no energy. Every time I turned around I curled up on the couch with a blanket and slept for a couple of hours..might be on the agenda for today as well. My nose is still stuffy, but overall I feel a bit better. Perhaps all those good veggies and fruit I ate last week did me in...LOL!!!
This past week I finished reading: "INTO THE FOREST" by Rebecca Frankel - a Holocaust story of survival and love. I watched - "Ghosts of Beirut" (2023) a four part series on Showtime on the 25 year hunt for a terrorist.
