My rant this week is about those lovely robo/scam calls and especially how they target the elderly. It does not matter if you are on the "no call" list or any other list. It also does not matter whether it's a landline or cell phone they get through (now I'm getting scam text messages). I answer the phone many times at my clients' houses and it amazes me the audacity of some callers. One client told me the other day, I sound authoritative when I answer so they don't stay on the line. I keep advising not to answer if they don't recognize the number.
The toilet in my bathroom started running last night. You never realize how loud a toilet is until it starts running. Guess that means a trip to Home Depot this morning (worst day of the week to go) to purchase a flapper. Here's hoping it fixes it and there are no other issues. We were a little bit Harriett homemaker yesterday as we replaced all the smoke alarms. One went off last week and it was not dated so we decided to replace all at same time - better safe than sorry.
Another busy week at work. A few extra hours here and there. Believe me when I say what I do is not complicated, but it can be tiring. Giving someone one-on-one attention brings them joy and makes me happy. The hard or should I say sad part of my job is seeing them decline. I know it's part of the journey, so all I can hope is that I make a difference for them and their family.
On my way to work the other day I stopped at an antique store. I have passed this store for a while and finally found the time. It was originally an old motel so the building is one story and long. They also have a barn out back (did not explore this time). I wandered throughout, lots of lovely items, but did not purchase as I kept thinking where would I put it? I did purchase some locally made spaghetti sauce, bbq sauce and jams...can't wait to try them.
This past week I finished reading: "DEMENTIA CAREGIVER GUIDE" by Teepa Snow and "CREATING MOMENTS OF JOY ALONG THE ALZHEIMER'S JOURNEY" by Jolene Brackey. Both excellent books for family and caregivers whether at home or in a facility. I watched the movie "SUMMERLAND" (2020) -During World War II, reclusive writer Alice has her sequestered life upended when Frank, an evacuee from the London Blitz, is left in her care.
