I had a busy week as I settled into the new routine of work. I attended a wonderful Veteran's Day ceremony on Monday. They had music from their choral group as well as a band made up of their residents. The residents read poetry and stories and two residents told about their coming home from the Vietnam War (two totally different experiences). The ceremony included a color guard provided by the Sheriff's department. I teared up a few times during the event.
Having the routine of work has allowed me to manage my time a little better. I feel I get lazy when I have too much time and procrastinate a bit too much. Knowing I need to be certain places at certain times means I will manage the rest of the day. Give me a deadline and I'll get something done...LOL! How about you?
With my work schedule, I cut back on my morning workout classes. Although I'm awake in plenty of time, I can not get up the energy to attend the 5:30 am class. I guess I'll need to work on stretching and strengthening on those days at home. I have what I need so now to make it happen. I'm so over late afternoon workouts (did plenty of them when I worked full time).
I went to a local craft mart yesterday and strolled through the aisles. I love to support local vendors, but I know I'm in the sorting/purging phase of my life. I really kept myself in check to not spend too much. I went with a limited amount of cash and was determined to not break out any credit cards or checks. My mantra was do I really need it? Will it make a nice gift for someone else? It truly helped. I then tried an absolutely delicious breakfast burrito from a food truck outside. It was delicious and freshly made. I definitely would try more of their food. I came home and hibernated a while as I said I had too much peopling...LOL!
I noticed quite a few neighbors have their Xmas lights/trees up inside. So pretty to see through the window as I walked to a friend's house. It seems to me that several have decorated earlier this year, but since I was away for so long, I can't be sure.
I attended my first HOA meeting here in Sterling. Yes, I've lived in the community for 20 years and always paid attention to what was happening and voted as I needed to, but just did not attend the meetings. They are in the process of updating the covenants and rules (have not been changed in almost 50 years) so thought I would get a first hand look at what's going on. We'll see if I attend any in the future, but you never know...(LOL!). .
I did not finish a book this past week, although I must be in a self-help phase, as I'm reading books I've had on the shelf for a long time. Quite a few from my active coaching days and I always say you read a book when you need to, so we'll see what comes out of this. Perhaps I'm preparing myself for more life movement in the future. I've purchased a few books from the Jenna Bush Hagar book club so we'll see when I get to them.
