We had dryer issues last weekend. It decided not to work with towels in it, so the old fashioned dry rack was pulled out and placed on the sun porch. I swear everything dried within 6 hours because it gets so hot out there. This dryer is at least twenty years old and had never had a problem so I guess it was time. Our laundry room was in place as is when we purchased the house 20 years ago. We have replaced the washing machine, water heater and hvac system, but never the dryer. Any way, we did some research online, picked out two or three and Patti headed to Lowes to purchase and arrange delivery. As we have a smaller laundry room, we measured every way we could think of to be sure it would fit and removed the door to help make delivery easier. Monday morning we are ready for delivery and they come only to tell us that the dryer will not fit in through the doorway of laundry room. Remember, I said we have a smaller laundry room, well the door only measures out at about 28 inches. Dryers these days have an extra panel in the back that extends the measurement. So the dryer went back. As we do not want a smaller dryer, it has now been turned into a handyman job for the trim to be removed and the door widened. Yes, that will mean a new door as well (I suggested drapes/shower curtain, but for some reason that was not well received...LOL). Hopefully, tomorrow the doorway will be handled and then we can order a new dryer. Thank goodness for old fashioned dry racks!
For those of you with children, I'm sure many of you are in the middle of everything school and fundraising. Even when I was a student I absolutely hated (yes that's a strong word) having to sell items. I was a bit shy and the thought of going door-to-door just killed me. My parents did not sell for me so, they just bought whatever I brought home. No, I was never on the top selling lists, but it was what it was. When I worked, I tried to buy something from every parent that put something out as I realized it was needed. I simply detest the idea of sending any kid door-to-door (even if the parents are with them). After all these years and the craziness of the world, the parents are helping the schools develop better ways to raise funds, thank goodness.
I signed up as a greeter for another Honor Flight next weekend. I'm sure the experience will be as heartwarming as the first. I honestly did not realize how many of these flights were happening. I have a friend that is in charge of a flight that comes into another airport and has asked me to assist. I'm working on schedules and details as this one is during the week.
I'm working on calendars and schedules as I need to go to Plymouth soon. The lawn lady sent me a bill the other day (first one since May) and a video so I could see how everything looks. I need to get the house ready for winter and handle a few more things. Plus there are so many people I want to see. I'm thinking a couple of weeks at least is what I'll need. We'll see what I can squeeze in.
I finished reading: "PATSY" by Nicole Dennis-Benn. It's about a woman who comes to the US on a tourist visa from Jamaica and leaves her young daughter behind with the girl's father. She stays in the US long after her visa expires to try and make a better life. It's a coming of age for both of them in many ways as well as about being undocumented and trying to earn a living. I have to say, I'm honestly not sure if I liked it. It must have kept my interest or I would not have finished.
