I had a wonderful vacation visiting family and friends. My kids (2 nephews and 1 niece) are all grown up and working adults. We had a fun dinner celebrating Brian's birthday, visited Melanie at the restaurant where she works, and got to see Shamus' home. Got lots of dog love from both houses and I remembered that I left the big box of treats I ordered special at home in my closet. Guess I'll be at the Post Office this week mailing dog treats. Its so weird to think of my kids as adults who work, own cars and can take their auntie out for a meal and have real conversations. I feel old...LOL!
I made it to Martha's Vineyard which has been on my list for a long time. When I was growing up, we went to the Cape as most working families did...only those with money went to the Vineyard. Guess I wanted to see what the fascination is all about. We took the ferry over and left the car on the mainland. They have a wonderful bus system that takes you all over. I'm not too sure my sister appreciated being called a senior, but in some circles she is. Most of the Vineyard is not open yet for the season (opens this week), but we were able to find good meals, good bakery and good places to walk and see the view. The best weather of my vacation was on the Vineyard. Only needed a jacket at night. My sister and I have not spent time alone in quite a while so we had some good conversations. Still not a place I'd want to visit during the season.
I'm happy to report that while on Martha's Vineyard I walked quite a bit. One day I walked over 3 miles including steps (hotel does not have elevator) and second day I walked almost 3 miles. I will admit I was hurting a bit, but kept on going as much as I could.
The one thing about vacation is sometimes it goes by too quickly. I still did not see everyone I wanted, but gives me an excuse for another visit. I definitely know next June I'll be visiting as there is a high school reunion to celebrate all years before the school closed.
I must have been really busy as I only finished one book (I brought 7): "AT HOME IN MITFORD" by Jan Karon - this is book one of a series. Story resolves around a rector in a small town - humorous with a few scandals thrown in.
The daily and wacky holidays for the week...provides something lighthearted to think about (there are always more things about each day that are not listed here, but it's so interesting to google "whats important about ...) :
