To those celebrating Hanukkah - Blessed are You, Adonai our God, Sovereign of all, who hallows us with mitzvot, commanding us to kindle the Hanukkah lights. Blessed are You, Adonai our God, Sovereign of all, who performed wonderous deeds for our ancestors in days of old at this season. Blessed are You, Adonai our God, Sovereign of all, who has kept us alive, sustained us, and brought us to this season.
Overall, my week went fairly well. I worked a few extra hours to keep my client company as his spouse had doctor appointments. This year especially with doctors not wanting extra people hanging around; it makes it easier to leave him at home. As with any person that has dementia, my client has good days and not so good days. He has no concept of time and will not be rushed to do anything, which can put him at odds with his spouse. I helped the spouse remove the shower doors and install a shower rod/curtain. We are hoping it makes it easier for my client to shower as it's not a big space. My client and I did walk inside the building a little bit as he was not interested in going out. We have our chores to check the mail and/or take the trash to the chute. Thank goodness he is so willing to wear a mask.
It was fun to step outside last week as Santa drove by on the back of a fire truck. I don't remember this happening in the past. The volunteer fire department in our are arranged it over a period of 7 nights for Santa to be driven through each neighborhood with music and light. The funny part is that there was a map published and we did not think he was coming down our street. My BFF ran up to the main road to catch a glimpse and I heard the music and stepped out the front door. I did not notice too many neighbors, (our part of the neighborhood has no children), but it was a little fun for the evening.
Although it was not part of my bucket list, after all these years, I finally tried a McRib sandwich. It was okay, but I can't see what all the fuss is about. At least I can say I tried it...LOL! What about you? Is there something that you've wanted to try and then thought what's the fuss about?
As I prepare my Xmas cards, I will look people up (especially older ones) that I have not heard from in a while (no I'm not a stalker). I was saddened to learn a former colleague had passed away in October as I came across her obituary. What made me even sadder was that it was only a one line mention in her local paper. She was a fascinating character who traveled the world and even authored a short book about her travels. I can hear her laughter as I write this. As with many over the past few years, I lost touch with other events happening in life. I'm not always great at reaching out, but I'm going to make the effort of keeping in touch a bit more. Thank goodness technology helps with some of the reaching out, but others still need a call or card.
This week I finished reading: "SEPARATED Inside an American Tragedy" by Jacob Soboroff. He documents the politics and policies that surrounded separating children from their parents at the border. A different type of book for me, I learned so much. Also besides watching Christmas movies (a little behind on them thank goodness for the DVR) caught up on "The First Ladies" a series on CNN.
