My thoughts and prayers are with those in Australia and Puerto Rico. So much devastation to homes, animals and life. I have no words to describe my feelings as I can't imagine what they are going through.
Did life return to normal this past week with the holidays over and schedules returning? Although I worked my normal schedule, the week felt a bit long. I was glad to get my morning workouts in on two days. I have to be honest and admit I even took a couple of naps as my body felt tired. My naps may not be long, but they are restorative in many ways. I got the majority of tax paperwork done for my other business and even started sorting and purging old files. Now if only our shredder would cooperate a bit more...LOL! I know I could wait for a shredding event, but I want to know the papers are shredded so I do it myself. I'll get it done as another year of merging and purging begins.
I meant to write a few weeks ago about how we seem to hear from people (including myself) that we may not hear from or see except during the holidays. Do you look forward to sending and receiving the annual Xmas card? I have to admit it's the only time of the year I truly enjoy getting mail. I sent about 80 or so Xmas cards - something I have not done in a couple of years. I was gently surprised that only two were returned for wrong addresses, so I did keep up pretty well. I love the pictures and letters that are included in many - I usually jot a quick sentiment or two. As I took down the decorations, I read each card and letter again and put them away. Although, I am grateful technology has allowed me to keep up with many people, whether they be former high school classmates/colleagues; former neighbors, and family far and wide; there is nothing like receiving something in the mail (at least in my opinion)..
I read and research a lot as many of you know. This is the time of year where resolutions and goals are discussed in many places. I read a blog written by Anne Sussman where she discussed goals and intentions and I wanted to share her description as it hit home with me.
- Goals are fixed on an outcome in the future. They are measured another time…later.
- Intentions focus on the present. They provide a guiding light to mindfully living moment to moment.
I watched a couple of movies this past week: The Bone Collector (1999) I had never seen the entire movie; Spotlight (2015); and Saint Judy (2018). Each different and each interesting. I also read: "BEHIND THE BEAUTIFUL FOREVERS" by Katherine Boo. It's about life, death and hope in the Mumbai slums.
