In between chats with customer service, I put Sunday dinner together. Glad I got up early..LOL! We are having a boiled dinner today (papa's request), but with kielbasa vice smoked shoulder. It almost smells like when mema made it, but I can't put my finger on what's missing. Papa passed on a few "tips" yesterday of how he wanted it cooked. I'll try to follow his "tips" as best I can. Guess at some point this morning I'll clean off the dining room table (we use it all week as a dumping ground). I have to laugh as I'm sitting here, Lady keeps lifting her head and sniffing - think she smells dinner..LOL!
I am a little bit all over the place this morning and have been for a few days. Not sure if it's the eclipse coming or not, but my emotions are little high and my energy is a bit weird. How are you feeling? I am a bit tired as I have not slept restfully for a few days. I know I slept, but I wake up tired so I must accomplish a lot in my sleep.
Overall, not a bad week. I had a wonderful catch-up lunch with my friend Donna. We try to get together a few times a year and have since high school. We finally got to exchange Xmas presents - nothing like being a little bit behind...LOL! It was fun to sit over a glass of wine with a view of the harbor catching up on lots of stuff. As we strolled through a couple of stores she bought me a pocket guardian angel. I now carry it with my energy stones and hold them all when I need to feel a bit centered.
Papa has gotten received some wonderful cards from neighbors, friends, and relatives. He is so grateful that people are sending him thoughts and prayers. He has been surprised by a visitor or two in the past week. I have to say I'm glad he was here alone for his visitors as I'm not sure I'm ready to deal with what emotions/feelings come up. I know it's not about me and I have a different perspective on life so as long as papa is happy and is at peace, then I'm good. I can deal with almost anything, but sometimes I'm not sure I want to right now. How do you handle unexpected surprises?
I am not naive and realize there is a lot of negativity/violence in the world right now. I cringe some days when I look at the headlines or turn on the news. I will continue to believe there are good people in the world and many who will gladly help others because it's the right thing to do. I sometimes want to hibernate until the bad things go away...I know that's silly, but it's how I feel. I will not hide, but continue to go forward and hopefully impact people in a good way.
A funny story for today. Sometimes I think I am living in the country and I'm definitely a city girl. Every day, Lady and I walk very carefully by the turkeys that seem to congregate everywhere. They are on one side of the service road and we are on the other. Sometimes they run and Lady just watches...LOL! I have seen a few deer, lots of bunnies (sometimes Lady runs a little quicker to look at them), a fox, and listened to the howling coyote (not sure where he is hiding). Last week a maintenance guy pulled over to tell me he saw a fisher cat run across the road where I walk. I said thanks for the warning at the same time I was thinking...what the heck is a fisher cat? You know I had to look that up quickly....not pretty and goes after small animals. Another thing to keep an eye out for...OMG what's a city girl to do? LOL!!!
A few months ago I mentioned that I was following a woman on FB that was walking across America. Her name is Lindsay Monroe and she finished her journey the other day. I cried happy tears as I watched her shear joy running into the ocean at Lincoln City, Oregon. The posts she wrote and the stories/pictures she shared along her journey were amazing. She posted a fun picture of her dog Thina in the water (she did not like it). She will not be walking back, but will be taking a slow journey to the East Coast. I can't wait to read more of her journey and lessons learned.
This past week I read: "THE MISSION WALKER" by Edie Littlefield Sundby. It's a story of how she was given three months to live and decided to change her life. It's her adventure of walking the entire eight-hundred mile Historic California Mission Trail. Then two years later she decided to walk the El Camino Real Trail which is another eight-hundred miles. Her story is amazing and inspiring. This book will definitely go to the reading table at the coffee shop for others. What are you reading?
I am going to leave it here for today. For those returning to school now and in the next few weeks - have a good year and journey! Take care. Chat soon. Marie
