I was out early this morning with my friend Diane and we completed an eight mile walk in a little over two hours. It was a chilly walk although by the time we were done my clothes were damp. We wanted to get a decent practice walk in as next Sunday we will be walking another half marathon. I am only competing with myself for time, but I definitely don't want to be one of the last people done. I have been told that this one is not as intense as Lake Placid and I know it will definitely not be as warm. This walk is in Philly so I probably won't prepare the blog until late in the day after I get home. Wish me luck!
This past week I was in Myrtle Beach for a few days with my BFF Patti. We wanted to check out our condo and just escape for a few days. I did not reach out to any friends or family as I just wanted to truly have some down time. I did get some walking in as we had a few days of good weather. While there we arranged to have some work done on the condo so it will be fun the next time I'm there to check out the changes. I did get some shopping done and it was great because there were no crowds! I don't know where the time went because I got hardly any reading done although I did write out all my Thanksgiving cards and got them mailed. I slept really well each night and woke up rested for a change. It was a nice ride home yesterday with hardly any traffic (at least until Northern Virginia) - I think I only saw the police twice with someone pulled over. How do you escape or recharge when needed?
I have been expanding my presence on-line via LinkedIn by joining some coaching and leadership groups. No I have not put the blog on Facebook yet!! I find it fascinating to learn about people and what they write about. There are some wonderful writers out there and when they share some of their wisdom I am delighted. I do follow a caregivers group on Facebook and I am learning so much about the trials and tribulations and blessings of others. Sometimes I contribute to the postings with a thought or I hope wisdom. What I have learned so far from both areas is that many of us are going through something, we are not alone in what we are going through and we are seeking perhaps answers of some kind. Perhaps it's hope and/or connection. Do you have any recommendations for groups I should follow? How are you connecting with others?
My mom has been doing pretty well. They started her physical therapy again so she is walking a little bit with assistance and using her muscles. Apparently, my mom has decided after all these years that she likes sleeping in until almost 10. I have never known my mom to sleep in, but if that's what she needs then so be it. Her spirits have been up and she is eating well.
A big shout out this week to my nephew Shamus as he turns 20! OMG I can't believe it! I am so proud of him and the young man he has grown to be. He is in the Army so I won't see him, but we'll connect at some point. HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!
I am going to leave it here today. I am getting hungry and I know I'm heading to my favorite restaurant for lunch! Enjoy your week. Take care. Chat soon. Marie
