I think of Spring and Easter as a time of RE....rebirth, renewal, recreate, reactivate, regenerate, etc. I have to say as I went to check my spelling I found there are over 4000 words that begin with RE. With the days getting longer and the sun getting warmer I always feel like I'm coming out from under the umbrella of the winter doldrums. I am not an overly religious person, yet I remember when I was younger how I would be upset about all the "extra" people that showed up for Easter (a few other holidays as well) services. As I have become older, wiser and more open-minded, I realize that perhaps Easter is way for them to reaffirm their faith or to find something that may be missing. I do not know if other religious sects experience this uptake in attendance or not for certain holidays. Just something I was thinking about this morning.
Well I settled back down after a wonderful mini vacation last weekend. I am still working on a schedule and have somewhat set up a routine for at least the mornings with my mom. As any caregiver knows it's one day at a time with the ups and downs. Most of the week went well except for over nights. Yes, I was a bit sleep deprived, but functioned - reminded me of my days of insomnia. Yesterday was the first day on my own and I won't say it was great, but my mom, Lady and I survived. We had a little mishap - no one was hurt - but I had to stay calm and focused as to a solution and it all came together. I truly believe you never know what you can/will do (no matter how much training) until you are in the moment.
I had to laugh when my mom settled down for bed last night , Lady went into her own bed (in my mom's room and slept for a few hours) - she missed her normal snack time. Lady woke up in time for me to go to bed, so we had a little walk and then we both settled down. I think we were all tired as we slept most of the night (of course Lady is still sleeping...LOL!). My mom started to stir a little bit ago.
I popped into the nursing home the other day to check on a few people. I so enjoy when we can smile and laugh together. When you see a look of remembrance on someone's face and can hold a hand for a few minutes - it is a wonderful feeling. I might try to go up later as I have my bunny ears ready and there is a family member I want to see.
Just a quick technical note: I found out that you can no longer sign up for an email subscription of the blog. The website holder decided since social media was the way to go they stopped the subscription capability and I did not realize it. I apologize to those that tried to sign up. If you are already receiving it via email you will continue as far as I know, just no new ones accepted.
I am going to leave it here for today. Lady just came out for her morning walk, my coffee is cold and the dryer is buzzing. I hope you have a wonderful week where you are. Take care. Chat soon. Marie
