I think Lady is enjoying the cooler weather a bit. Her sniffer is really reacting to the falling leaves and the scents in the air. She is walking a bit more and a bit longer. But when she sits - she sits. She does not care if it's the middle of the street. When she needs a break she takes it. Luckily, only a couple of times I had to move her out of the way of cars. Hopefully, she will get to the groomer this week so she can see better (her hairs grows quickly) as her hair curls over her eyes.
I wanted to bring you up-to-date on our dryer saga. The new dryer was finally delivered and installed last week. It's so nice to have a large inner drum (I guess I did not realize our old one was on the smaller size). We had a handyman remove all the trim from the doorway. He measured every which way to ensure a dryer would fit. We then had to re-order the dryer and have it delivered/installed. The handyman returned the other day and put the doorway back together again. Thank goodness, we did not have to have additional renovation work. While we were going through this, the dryer in our condo at Myrtle Beach also decided to call it quits. This is a laundry center (washer/dryer combo) and when one goes you replace the entire thing. This is harder to do when you are dealing with a property management company and long distance. As an owner of a property management company, I know how quickly I would have had all of this done (especially when there is a current tenant). But it has taken a bit longer than anticipated. It was delivered yesterday with several visible dents, so I have to give credit to the property manager for refusing delivery. Only problem is that now it will be another week before one arrives. Hopefully, this is will be the last of appliance issues.
I had the privilege of being a volunteer helper for an Honor Flight from Knoxville. It was an amazing day as we toured D.C. with over 100 veterans and their escorts. We had four buses with many of the veterans from the Vietnam era. They reminded me of family and family friends who served. This group is very well organized. This was my first time watching the whole day and I was amazed at all the equipment (oxygen tanks, wheelchairs, walkers, etc) as well as a few paramedics that are all part of the day. From the water cannons as the plane approached the gate to the wreath laying at different monuments, what a day! Several times I teared up as I watched the veterans or the ceremonies. I will say the best way to travel in D.C. is by police motorcycle escort. From the moment we left Reagan National Airport, to the moment we returned at the end of the day, we had a police escort. I was on the first bus and it was amazing to watch them maneuver through traffic. The historian/tour guide Tony was wonderful. He had so many stories and knowledge, I could tell he loved what he was doing. He said he was part of the Honor Flights for nine years. It was fascinating for me as I realized there were several monuments I had not been to previously. I pushed one man in a wheelchair most of the day and ensured he was hydrated and such. It was funny how he was concerned about me and my welfare because of the heat - we found shade when we could. Lunch was provided by Arby's and although I'm usually not a fan, the lunch they provided was very good. I will say I was completely exhausted that night and the next day, but my heart was full. I can't wait until the next one scheduled in the spring.
I hope I am providing you a link to a Plattsburgh, NY TV station. The anchor did an hour long story regarding the North Country Honor Flights. I have met this group at Dulles Airport. This was a wonderful tribute to the program and the people/town who participated. I hope this works as technology sometimes is beyond my grasp...LOL! Heroes Take Flight
I did not finish any books this week - almost, but not done. I noticed my stack is getting smaller so time to think about restocking. It could be costly, but I just might explore the bookstore (yes in person) this week. What are you reading these days?
