Memorial Day, for me, is a time for reflection. I will never understand the sales and such as it's not what this day means: Memorial Day is an American holiday, observed on the last Monday of May, honoring the men and women who died while serving in the U.S. military. Although the majority of ceremonies have been cancelled, I will take time to remember those soldiers who died defending my freedom.
I was a bit reflective this past week as I celebrated my 62nd birthday. I thought about my life and accomplishments (more than I give myself credit for) as well as failures and heartaches (many lessons learned). I also thought about what I still want to do (such a long list) and what steps I need to begin taking (a bit of planning). It was wonderful to hear from so many all over the world (my circle is bigger than I realized). We had a social distancing dinner in our garage with Mexican food and margaritas from a local restaurant - all wonderful. Finding new ways to celebrate. Do you become a bit reflective around birthday time?
I worked every day and it went fairly well. Both clients were not in the best of moods for part of the week. It can make my time with them a little harder, but it's satisfying when they are cheered up a little bit more peaceful before I leave. Many times it's about redirecting, deflecting, music and, of course, my charming personality...LOL!
I have to say I hate politics and I truly try not to bring them into this forum. I can't stand the name calling and nastiness that has become inherent over the past several years on all levels. I would much rather know, who the candidate is (personally and professionally), what he/she is about (ideals and ethics), where they see the future (visions and goals), when do they see changes happening (plans and steps to get there) and why are they running for the office. And, of course, how do they plan on working together to get his/her goals accomplished. To me, it's not about which party you belong to, it's about how to lead and serve the county and the people. One more thing, I also believe in term limits at all levels. Enough of that this morning - hopefully I won't be bringing that up again.
Over the past few weeks, I watched a few things that I normally would not watch: The Last Dance docuseries about Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bulls - interesting to say the least. I may have to look up a few more documentaries about sports. AKA Jane Roe documentary about the women behind the Roe v. Wade decision - eye opening in many ways. Yesterday I watched the first Trolls movie - so cute and Saturday Night Fever (been a long time since I watched it) and I swear the ending was different than I remember. Have you watched something that you normally would not? Any recommendations?
This week I finished reading: "BECOMING" by Michelle Obama. Very well written and interesting to learn about her values, strengths, and weaknesses.
