Hope you all survived the heat of the past week. I didn't appreciate it being at least 100 degrees and high humidity for the past few days. It's out of the norm here and I definitely can't stand it. Our power went out for about 30 seconds early yesterday morning and as I watched the overhead fan blades slow (I was laying in bed), I thought, "Oh No...hotel time." Even New Englanders are experiencing this oppressive weather - some of the restaurants were closing because the kitchens were too hot for the workers. I think that says a lot about the owners who are willing to consider employees over profits. I walked Lady at 10 last night, it was still in the 90s and the air was soupy. I've never been so grateful for AC. In Loudoun county (where I live), they opened all the recreation centers, libraries and such as cooling centers.
My elderly neighbor from Plymouth and I talk about once a week. He calls to check on me and asks when I'm returning. He said the weather was miserable and he was staying in as much as possible. He makes me laugh with his stories of the happenings in the community. He is having some health issues, but keeps moving forward. He tries to stay out of trouble, but it seems to find him anyway.
I have a Fitbit watch (gift from my sister). I know I'm not using it to its full capacity, but I have found it a helpful not only with steps and activities, but with sleep patterns. I was not using this in the beginning as I took my watch off at night. Well, I started wearing it a few weeks ago just to see what it would show. I put in my sleep schedule as 11:00 pm to 7:00 am (yes I know I need to adjust that to earlier wake up time). Overall, it shows I sleep perhaps 6 hours and some nights 3. No wonder I feel like napping after Jazzercise...LOL!
I did work as a companion this past week and I felt accomplished when I cleaned out the freezer. Again, so much stuff was thrown away. She told me she throws out more than she eats and she's right. I found many items that expired several years ago, but now it's nice and basically empty except for a few recent purchases. She should be able to find everything she needs between the fridge and freezer. This coming week I'll check out the pantry. Still working on finding a reputable antique/collectibles appraiser to come to the house for her. It's harder than I thought it would be, but I'll find one. She is so like my mother in that she has a standing appointment every week at the hairdresser. That's the appointment that all others are made around.
This week I finished reading: "UNDONE" by Karin Slaughter. Its the third in the Will Trent series. You know I so enjoy murder/mayhem. What does your summer reading list look like?
Are you following any interesting Blogs or FB pages that you think might of interest to me or my readers? I follow a few that I have mentioned here previously. I have a new one that I learned about and started following: Campowerment. To be honest, I can't remember where I heard about it (except possibly the Today show). You might find it interesting as well: campowerment.com/about/
