My BFF and I drove to Plymouth on Thanksgiving Day, sorted and packed on Friday, and drove back to Sterling on Saturday. It was a whirlwind time and I am sorry I did not reach out or see anyone. I had too much to do and too little time. We had our Thanksgiving meal at IHOP (breakfast for me) and then found out some of the restaurants at the harbor were open...oh well! We did venture out on Friday for lunch (I had an old gift card to use) so we indulged in basically leftovers with a turkey dinner calzone and turkey dinner eggrolls (both came with sides of gravy). Both were very good and something to think about the next time we have leftovers. We packed up the car - leaving room to see - Friday afternoon. Although there is still much to do, I feel we made a little headway. We drove back yesterday to avoid some of the traffic and beat some of the storms expected today. We made pretty good time until we got to Maryland and then it was pretty packed until we arrived home. We had an audio book to entertain us. We picked up take out from Chik Fil A and made it home by 3. Have you tried the peppermint chocolate chip milkshake? All I can say is YUM!!!
My emotions were up and down all weekend as I tried to sort through items and remembered some of the stories attached to them. Even with all the stuff I brought back, I will need to go through again and donate - lots of totes/boxes stored in our sun room for now. A few more trips will definitely need to be made or I need a bigger vehicle (LOL!), but it will get done. I know last night I was completely exhausted, was in bed by 9:30 and slept until at least 4 this morning. I then rolled over and fell asleep again until 6. Now that's an accomplishment in itself.
This week, I need to finish Xmas shopping and placing my online orders for flowers and goodies. I've had the catalogs beside my chair for weeks, but just have not pushed the button so to speak. I'm cutting back a bit this year so need to review again old orders and not blindly hit buttons. Now that it's December, I realized I'm a little behind in my ordering. Oh well, it will get done as needed.
It feels funny to say I have to work tomorrow, but I do, as I settle into my new normal. Oh well, at least there are no meetings I need to attend any longer...LOL! It is interesting how all of my experiences over the years and my coaching skills come into play now in this position.
Did not finish any books this past week. Maybe this week I'll make a little progress.
There are many people out there who are sad and/or grieving. I understand and definitely have my moments where my heart feels ripped open. Most of the time, I can focus on good memories of the past and creating good memories for the future. I mainly try to stay present and focus on the moment. One moment at a time. I decorated early because I wanted to enjoy it and feel some peace. I know my angels are surrounding me and helping me along the path of every day. I look for and see signs when they are around and I can smile and feel joy. There is no magic pill or snap of the fingers to get over grief...sometimes I wish there was. I feel grief is a reminder to stop and think about the love you shared and to speak of them and pass on the memories/stories in healing way.
