My mom is doing really well. She was excited that I brought her presents and even more thrilled that I brought her a couple of bracelets. Remember she gave me a hard time at Christmas because I did not give her jewelry. What I have noticed about the women in the nursing home is that they all seem to like inexpensive and colorful beaded jewelry. They seem to share it as well so I picked up a couple of more beaded bracelets yesterday and brought them in as well. As long as they are happy and not fighting over them like children I'm good. The hospital/nursing home is having a stomach virus rearing it's ugly head. The nurses and cna's today started wearing masks and gloves. They are warning people as they come into the building.
My dad is doing well. He is glad I'm home and can run errands with him. Of course, he loves to eat breakfast out so I am trying to balance between a couple of mornings at home and a couple of mornings out. He does not seem to mind staying home. The nurses today suggested my dad wear a mask because of his weakened immune system, but he feels invincible and won't. He said maybe tomorrow. Stubborn old man that he is!
I have had some time this past week to finish a book - REDEPLOYMENT by Phil Klay. This is a collection of stories about soldiers deployed and redeployed to Iraq and about their homecoming. It is a hard, yet impactful read. I was catching up on movies (I love being able to record at off times and watch later). You can tell my tastes were all over the place: Dallas Buyers Club, 12 Years a Slave, and Nanny McPhee. I have not checked to see what's on this week perhaps I'll be able to catch up on a couple of more movies. Do you have any recommendations?
I have not been to the gym since I've been home. I have not felt like getting out of bed in the morning. Not that I'm not awake, just don't feel like getting up. This week I will have to start going in the afternoon or get my butt out of bed in the morning. Although I don't like to workout in the afternoon I need to get going again. I know I miss working out so time to get going! What do you do to keep up the motivation?
My niece and I had some time together yesterday and today. She may end up staying another night if schools are closed tomorrow. We did a bit of shopping yesterday and had dinner last night. We might do something this afternoon after her nap. She is a teenager, therefore, needs lots of sleep...lol!
It was an exciting week in New England as the Patriots won the Super Bowl! It was an exciting game that's for sure. I did not attend the parade as I'm not that crazy to want to be in Boston with 2 feet of snow on the ground. One of the workers at the nursing home had the day off and went downtown. The pictures she showed me were fantastic as she was up close during the parade. She had a ball. Oh to be young and just go out into the cold.
I am going to end it here for the day. I hope you have a wonderful week. Take care of yourself and stay safe. Also, Happy Valentine's Day! Chat soon. Marie
