I know animals are empaths in many ways and I see it in Lady. She has her routine of checking on my mom; sometimes she only goes to the door and peeks in. Lately, I've noticed that Lady has taken to sleeping on the extra dog bed that's in mom's room a little more often. When the hospice nurse was here on Friday, Lady just kept pacing and stayed very close. At least Lady does not try to get on mom's bed (mom never allowed dogs on bed or furniture). I had to laugh as I wrote that since Lady is asleep on the couch at the moment.
My mom has been home for seven months now - yes even under my care (LOL). I am glad I am in a place in my life where I can devote 24/7 to her care. I am also glad I do not have to deal with the nursing home any longer as they have gone downhill in many ways. They have started placing patients in the memory care unit that should not be there as a holding place and anything to collect money on a bed. This has caused many horrible safety issues. In order to justify their actions they are now changing the mission of this unit so it will not be just memory care. This is when I truly hate for profit corporations running health care.
I said the other day, if I won the lottery (yes I can't help but buy at least one ticket for those huge games); I would do the normal stuff, but then would love to create a memory care facility and not worry about staff and such. Also, people could pay what they could afford as I would never make people go completely broke so I could make a profit. I wish there was a way to turn the nursing home industry around so it's not a horror story, but a place where people - especially those with no one to care for them - would want to go not have to go. I also said I would want to create a dog rescue.....Now, I wondering if there could be a way to combine the two...the power of imagination. Did you get your ticket yet? What would you do if you won?
I got my flu shot on Thursday. I decided this year to go to CVS on my way to meditation class since I had a few extra minutes. Well, although I did get it, what a fiasco. It's a long funny story that I won't bore you with here, but although I so wanted to go ballistic, I maintained as much control as possible. I did say to one cashier, I would walk out the door right now if I did not think I would be arrested. It's done and next time I'll either be back in VA so I can head to Kaiser or I'll go back to Walgreens as I have done in the past. I was very stressed by the time I got to meditation. I am surprised I was able to meditate at all. Ahhh the power of meditation! At least this week I did not fall asleep in meditation (yes I have done that before).
I have been trying to read more and be online less...LOL! So in the mornings (unless Lady is up) I make coffee and open a book. Most mornings I have the TV on MUTED so I can catch a headline. A couple of days this past week I did not get online until the afternoon. There are mornings I peruse FB a few minutes before I get out of bed and I'm trying to wean myself off that as well. I realized I was spending way too much time online and then if I get caught up in a Solitaire game...forget it as time flies.
I did finish reading a book..YEAH! "THE ALICE NETWORK" by Kate Quinn. Thank you FB challenge for the recommendation as this was a very good book. It is about female espionage in World War I and II. I did not realize that Reese Witherspoon has a book club, but this book was recommended by the club as well. Of course, now I reading murder/mayhem again..have to love Patterson.
