Hi Everyone. Hope this finds you well today and you had a good week. This is a late posting for me as I look out the window and see a gloomy sky - think we are headed for some rain here in Plymouth.
It's been an up and down week for me emotionally. I was glad to see some really good progress with my mom physically. She had physical therapy every day, eating her meals and taking her medications. All that changed yesterday when she decided that she would not cooperate with the people in the hospital at all. She would not eat, get dressed, or open her eyes. Although they were able to dress her she continued to refuse to cooperate or open her eyes. This is the childish portion of the disease where if she closes her eyes we are no longer visible, therefore, we are not there and she does not have to do anything. Finally about noon she was willing to cooperate. We went through the whole thing again today only she also refused to take her medications last night or this morning so that does not help everything else that is happening. I worked with the therapist to get her dressed not an easy task and then it took two more hours to get her to take her medications. She ate some of her lunch so I'm hoping that she will eat some dinner. My dad spent almost all day at the hospital today (I took a lunch break) and we will go back tonight if she does not cooperate with her medications. Of course all of this makes me sad, but I understand it is the disease that is making her the petulant two year old. I realize my mother always had a stubborn streak (how do you think I got mine?) and so I try to be patient and kind.
Physically for me it was a good week. I walked every morning (except one) at least 3.5 to 4 miles (about 1 hours) and yesterday I walked almost 6 miles in one hour 20 minutes. I am working on the next half marathon (November in Philly) so I'm keeping my training up. This development has quite a few hills so I am walking them in different directions (including a bit of trotting) to build up my endurance. Normally when I get back I either do some work with the tube or some floor work. I did not see any turkeys this past week just lots of bunnies and cats. As I was coming back from lunch today I was stopped by a tom turkey leading his family including the babies across the main road. I thought to myself...OMG they are everywhere up here. I keep carrying my phone on my morning walks to see if I can take some pics so you believe what I see.
I realized this week that since I arrived I have not worn shoes except for my workout shoes. I have been living in my yoga sandals. I can't believe this as I always have worn shoes with my toes enclosed and hard or thick soles. I can't say there are days when my feet don't hurt a little, but I think the yoga sandals are doing whatever they are supposed to be doing. Of course, it's easier when having a pedicure done.
I am having my morning discussions with God to thank him for my day and life. I also talk about my mom and dad and pray that no matter what happens they don't suffer. One day my mom told me my angel was walking around behind me so I thought I better keep up my conversations. Of course I talk about a few other things as well - especially the gratefulness I feel regarding my friends that are such a great support resource. They are always checking in or sending me notes so I know they are there for me if needed. I have heard from some great people. I hope you have a wonderful support system such as mine.
I leaving it here for the day. I hope you have a great week. Take care of yourself and appreciate those around you. Chat soon. Marie
