For those of you that do not know I went a little crazy this past week and decided to add some blue to the hair. It's not all over, but it is fun. The cut is a little different. Except for a few years of perms, I have worn my hair the same way since high school....now that's a long time!! My mom loves the color and the cut. I have had mainly good comments from all sorts of people (including strangers), but they all smile when they make the comment. I feel sassy and fun with the blue in the hair!
I took my car in on Monday for simple stuff and ended up driving a truck for four days. The only thing available for a loaner was a Silverado truck and boy was it big. It's been many years since I drove anything that big. Parking was interesting so I tried to only pull through! At least when I got it back on Friday, everything was covered by warranty. The climbing in and out of the truck put a hitch in my get along in many respects. My hip/back started spasms on Wednesday. Of course, it did not stop me from working out at Jazzercise - I even took a dedicated abs class (OMG thought I was going to collapse, but it was GOOD). So the rest of Wednesday, Thursday and Friday was spent hobbling a bit. I kept exercising, but definitely not as much. The chiro on Friday really worked on it and I'm much better although I need to keep stretching and icing.
My mom is doing well. When I appeared yesterday I asked if she had a good month and she gave me a look. I know this look so I said, have you been causing trouble? She shrugged her shoulders. I said when I go upstairs will I be getting a bad report? She said, "Oh Yes you will." I said why are you misbehaving and her response, "Because I can." I can't believe my mom started a food fight, but she did. The staff was laughing hysterically as they told me the story and all I could think was OMG her personality is changing..is that another stage? The staff also mentioned that she is getting a bit mouthy and obstinate. When they ask her why she is being mean, her response to them is also, "because I can." I said to her today you really need to behave after all you raised me not to do those things. Her response, "well I did not raise myself that way." Sometimes I just have to turn away and chuckle. This morning she was joking about having her hair done like mine. I said if that's what you want we can make that happen.
My dad is also doing well. He had me in the grocery store two hours after I got here. I just put my big girl panties on and went to the store. I'm not a fan of the grocery store and especially on a Saturday, but it all worked out. He had all the mail on the table from the past month and said you might want to look through this pile as there might be bills in there. I have gone through more than half and will finish up later today. I have to say that it might be August, but he has already received seven (7) 2016 calendars from different charities. Last year he received 35 calendars by the end of the year, let's see what happens this year. Lady was glad to see me, but she did not sleep with me. She spent the night at the foot of my dad's bed - almost her normal spot.
I wanted to write a bit about people who care. When I arrived yesterday the staff from the memory care unit was in the middle of a car wash to raise money for Alzheimer's Disease. They were dressed in purple tutus and just having fun. They also had pizza and lemonade for sale. I ran down to see them and get hugs all around. While there I asked them if this was their day off and they all said yes. I thought to myself wow - this is their day off and yet they are at work holding a car wash for a disease that impacts the people they take care of every day. They expect no compensation or rewards. They are holding several events this month to raise money and then will be part of a community walk in September. I see a staff that truly cares about what they do and the people they are caring for. I was truly impressed when I saw the hospital director out there in t-shirt and shorts with her daughter also washing the cars and greeting people. I can honestly say that I could never see the former director being involved in this type of event. I am so thankful they exist. I worked with too many people over the years where even the word volunteer is not in their vocabulary. Again, I thank God for these people who care and are dedicated to their jobs and their patients.
This past week I finished reading: The Main Enemy by Milt Bearden and James Risen. It's basically about the end of the cold war and the spy business. Good book. What are you reading this summer?
I am going to leave it here today. Lady needs a bath and I want to have some lunch. I hope you have a fabulous week. Take care. Chat soon. Marie
